A suspected rapist who escaped from custody after he was caught napping at his house was re-arrested by members of the public recently and handed over to the police
The 23-year-old man from Shashemooke village had bolted from the police while awaiting a mandatory HIV test at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital in relation to the rape charges against him.He was re- arrested the following day by members of the public who launched an extensive man hunt shortly after they heard that the culprit, who was well known in the village, had run away from the police.
The accused, was said to have taken his victim, a pregnant woman hostage for the whole night at his house where he allegedly raped her repeatedly until morning.
After she was set free, the woman,went to report the matter to the police straight away.She subsequently had a miscarriage.
Tatitown CID officer in-charge, Lawrence Nthoiwa, told The Voice that the suspect had been indeed recaptured and was set to appear before the court soon. The raped woman allegedly met with the rapist while on her way home from a wedding ceremony in the neighborhood.
