Letlhakane police are investigating a case in which a 38-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 33-year-old girlfriend to death in Mopipi village on Sunday morning.
Confirming the lady’s death, Letlhakane Station Commander, Michael Maphephu revealed the couple – who had a nine-year-old child together – had been out drinking before the incident occurred.
“According to the report the two were from a bar which is 300 metres away from where the deceased was renting. When they got home a misunderstanding broke out which woke their landlady who asked them not to quarrel.
“We heard that immediately after the old woman went back inside her house, the man stabbed the girlfriend and torched the house.
“The woman managed to get out of the burning house and fell in front of it before succumbing to the knife injuries,” continued Maphephu, adding that the suspect then fled only to be arrested the following day at his aunty’s place.
He further stated that the accused, thought to be from Mahalapye, has not yet appeared in court as there were no interpreters available.
Still in Letlhakane, two women aged 29 and 26, were raped by unknown men at different locations with the suspects still at large.
Lastly, a 33-year-old man is currently in police custody suspected of sleeping with an underage schoolgirl aged 17.
