A 23-year-old man from Kgwatlheng ward in Kanye appeared before Kanye Magistrate court on Tuesday, accused of murdering his pregnant girlfriend.
Keabetswe Gabautlwe is charged with killing 18-year-old Keneilwe Patricia Ntetang, whose body was discovered in a decomposed state at Dihutshwane lands near Ga-Segwagwa settlement.
It was revealed before court that Gabautlwe himself reported the incident to the Police on June 9th.
When addressing court, the case prosecutor, Sub Inspector Motsumi Phori, revealed investigations into the matter are ongoing and pleaded with the court to extend the suspect’s remand as he has to be taken for a mental check-up at Sabrana hospital.
After being told that he has the right to find himself an attorney, the suspect, who appeared dishevelled and scruffy and whose smelly sneakers emitted an overpowering stench, was asked if he had anything to say.
However, Gabautlwe replied that he had nothing to say.
Speaking to The Voice, the deceased’s aunt, 42-year-old Ompelege Ntetang, said she was phoned by police officers on Friday, and asked to rush to Princess Marina to assist with identifying an unknown body.
“I found my sister’s child with a sharp wound on the collar bone. She had scratches all over the face. Her tongue was cut, and the mouth wide open,” she recalled mournfully.
An upset Ntetang revealed that her niece was six months pregnant and said the family knew about the pregnancy, although they never met the suspected murderer.
The case continues on June 27th.
