A graffiti artist who attacked rapper Atlasaone Molemogi also known as ATI has gone into hiding to avoid police arrest.
Kwezi a popular graffiti artist disappeared into thin air Monday afternoon after he smashed the door to ATI’s rented house in Gaborone’s Block 5 location.
In a telephone interview with The Voice, Kwezi did not deny tearing down ATI’s door with an axe.
His excuse was that emotions had overcome him at the time of the incident as he wanted ATI to pay him his outstanding debt of P3000-00 for some work he had done for the rapper.
Although, some friends to ATI claim that Kwezi wanted P300 for his 31st birthday party, he has since denied that. “ATI and I are like brothers. But on that day when I wanted my debt he became so rude to me. He insulted me, disrespected me, he hurled insults at me. He made me feel like a small boy. That I didn’t like,” he said.
He said he was in a fit of rage when he went to ATI’s house and that upon arrival he found the door locked and tried in vain to convince ATI to open for him. “I knew he was inside as I had been talking to him through the phone, but he refused to open. All I wanted was to take my things from his house,” he said.
Kwezi did not dispute slapping ATI but he claimed he acted in self defense.
He said ATI only opened the door after he had already wrecked it. “He smacked me across the face and a fight ensued. We fought until I managed to get away from him. I didn’t try to kill him. I could never kill anybody. He must have been high on some joint because he smokes a lot,” he said.
Asked why he is evading the police, Kwezi said he does not trust them. “A police station is not a nice place to solve squabbles. I am hiding in some faraway place. My lawyer has advised me not to hand myself to the Police because they might lock me up. I am not scared of them but I know the police can be so ruthless and detain me,” he said.
ATI did not want to relate his story as he claimed that he was still in shock.
Instead he appointed his Logistics Manager, Charles Manie, to talk to the media.
Manie who showed The Voice the damaged door said ATI never fought Kwezi but rather that Kwezi was the one who attacked ATI. “There is no way he could have fought Kwezi because he is always talking about his abduction case that is before court. He is careful not to fall on the wrong side of the law. Kwezi smashed ATI’s door because all he wanted was a P300 to throw a party,” he said.
Police in Block 5 are on the hunt for Kwezi who is facing charges of malicious damage to property and assault common.
