President Ian Khama has set April 21st as the bye-election date for Mochudi East constituency

Khama according to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) also directed that the nomination for the by election be received by March 23rd.

The constituency became vacant after Member of Parliament, Isaac Davids, was brutally murdered at his farm in Sorilatholo, on January 13th.

Meanwhile in court, the first accused in the Davids murder case, Jabulani Dube (32) was last week denied bail before Molepolole Senior Magistrate Lindiwe Makgoro after his co-accused Mokgalimi Keoikantse Malea (34) was granted bail on February 13th.

Dube’s defence attorney Sesupo Masaka applied for bail pending trial arguing that Dube has a girlfriend, child, a valid residence permit and a valid work permit which prove that although he is a Zimbabwean, he has been living in the country legally for the past 15 years. The case is expected to continue on March 13th.
