We have a serious problem because we have been informed that our first choice goalkeeper Noah Maposa has crossed floors to rivals, Gaborone United. What we know as players is that the team tried to persuade him to reverse his decision but could not convince him to stay. However players come and go, it is part of the game. We cannot expect a player to remain at one club for loyalty, there are other issues involved. We will miss his jokes.
There is a perception in football circles that players are abusing the transfer window, always moving to new clubs to get the much sort after signing on fee. However my observation from the years I have spent playing football is that most club management usually focus on bringing new players and totally forget about the players they already have on the team. This can be very demoralising and personally I have always left amicably. Football is a short career, players need to make as much money and as quickly as they can. We need to take advantage of the situation.
Oh yes I hear that there are trialists at Centre Chiefs. We have been doing a lot of physical training at Chiefs so I didn’t get enough time to see them on the ball. Players are tricky they can’t be judged on short term sessions, they can fool you. You need a lot of time before you can give a player a contract. Coach, Sthandwa Mogwadi once told a player that he fooled him after the said player failed to produce the magic he showed during the trials. I however trust that the reason why the coach brought them is because they are good and will add value to the team.
The national team is currently in camp. We are doing the medicals. This is really taxing because we check a lot of things, from strength to weaknesses in the body. We do weight lifting. It has been hectic. We check the heart beats and all sorts of unimaginable things. It has also been funny to a certain extent. You can’t believe that Tshepho “Talk Talk” Motlhabankwe is afraid of needles. He literally trembles just seeing a team-mate being injected. Can you believe that?
BEWARE OF BMC
I am worried of BMC. They have made a lot of good signings for the coming season. It will just be a matter of how they will click in various combinations. Normally having a lot of new players depends on combinations. I however know that with Chico Nare as the coach BMC has a magician. We once led the league for a very long time until he unceremoniously left. Teams must prepare be ready to battle with the stubborn Ezinkomol. It is important that all teams up their tempo this season, it will be good for national team players.
Lastly both Jerome Ramatlhakwana and Dirang Moloi are still with the Zebras. I think they will be leaving anytime soon. These guys are professionals so their agents are surely working something out for them.
