The country’s most prestigious football tournament, the Coca Cola Cup will be launched on Tuesday.
It was announced at the annual pre Coca Cola Cup meeting between, the sponsors, football authorities and the media, dubbed Pilediwa at which the parties deliberate on how to improve the running of the tournament.
This year is a special one for the Coca Cola Cup as it will be celebrating its 20th year. The P2, 200 000.00 sponsored cup by KBL has become an important part of the football calendar and over the years has unearthed talent that has gone far in raising the national flag abroad.
Amongst those who have starred in the tournament and gone on to become household names are legends such as Tummie Duicker, Thabo Motang, Mmoloki Sechele and the present crop of South African based players amongst them Dipsy Selolwane, Mogogi Gabonamong, Phenyo Mongala, Dirang Moloi and Boitumelo Mafhoko.
Speaking at the Pilediwa BFA CEO Judge Mookodi expressed his gratitude to KBL’s contribution and commitment to the development of local football over the last twenty years.
“We are very grateful for the sponsorship and the positive effect that association with brand Coca- Cola has had on the BFA brand and profile. We wish that there was another knock-out cup tournament of this magnitude and stature that could compliment Coca- Cola Cup,” Mookodi said.
Another Speaker at the event KBL Markerting Manager Soft Drinks Karabo Kabelo Tlhabiwe reiterated Coca Cola’s commitment to local football and said the media was important partners in carrying forward the partnership between the sponsors and football into the future.
