Women in Business awards to be held
The year was 2015, the selection process was grueling and although many were deserving and could have been selected, it was the most tenacious that made the cut.
Then it was up to the public to decide who would walk away as winners of the prestigious Women in Business Association Awards.
The inaugural award ceremony was a success and it is against this backdrop that the organization has launched its second edition.
Although the President of WIBA Tumi Mbaakanyi alludes to the constraints they face, she and the team are determined to stay true to the organisation’s mandate to unearth, nurture, develop and navigate a better business change for women entrepreneurs in Botswana.
“It is imperative to continue celebrating women success stories as they serve as motivation and most of all a backbone to our economy.”
She went on further to say “As we look to Botswana’s 50 years anniversary, there is a need to join in the celebrations and highlight women’s contribution to our country’s growth in the business fraternity.”
The second Women in Business Excellence Awards will be hosted under the theme; “An infinite sparkle, her success story” and are billed for August 26th.
The WIBA excellence awards are supported and have been endorsed by the Ministry of Labour & Home Affairs, through the Department of Gender Affairs.
Women led businesses will compete under six exciting categories with the overall Business Woman of the Year walking away with P50, 000 cash, courtesy of Stanbic Bank Botswana, in addition to other prizes.
Last year during the Award ceremony, the formidable business duo of Pinkie Setlalekgosi and Gebriel Michelle of Sprint Couriers walked away with the overall prize of Best business.
Other top winners for the night included Goabaone Modisane who bagged two awards: Young Woman of the Year Award and Innovator of the Year Award.
Another exciting award of Inspirational Woman of the year was awarded to Obakeng Lebang.
The 2016 six categories to be competed for include: Young Entrepreneur Award, Innovation Award, Male Dominated Industry Award, Female Collaboration Awards, Social Entrepreneur Award and the Informal Sector Award.
One exciting addition to this year’s awards is ‘the male dominated industry’ category, which seeks to celebrate those women making a mark in areas previously dominated by male counterparts like; construction, mining, architecture, engineering etc.
Winners will be chosen from entries across the country and these are businesses deemed to have made significant strides in various business aspects throughout the year explained WIBA.
The call to enter campaign will commence on the 31st May 2016. Entry forms will be availed on the WIBA website, at the WIBA office and throughout all Department of Gender Affairs offices in the country.
2015 WIBA Awards sponsors will be retained, in addition to new exciting ones.
These included; Stanbic Bank Botswana, Botswana Oil, Debswana, Village Imaging, Earth Vitamins, Dee Zone Productions, Resource Logic, Ba-Isago University, 03, Mobile Enterprises, The Voice, and Business Weekly newspaper among others.
WIBA was founded in 1990 and is focused on promoting the spirit of entrepreneurship amongst women.
It has, despite resources constraints, made bold strides in promoting business education and sustenance of this economic framework.
Women are encouraged to use this platform and reminded that one woman’s win is a win for all.”
