The annual Hospitality and Tourism Association of Botswana (HATAB) conference will this year focus on how the tourism industry can contribute to job creation.

The conference which will be held in Kasane from the 25th to the 26th of April will be held under the theme ‘Sustainable Tourism – A driving force for job creation, Economic growth and development’.

The two-day conference will be officiated by the Vice President, Slumber Tsogwane, with Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Kitso Mokaila giving a keynote speech.

This year marks the 35th year in which the conference is being held, and the association says it chose the theme in recognition of the tourism sector’s commitment to promoting sustainable development, employment creation and economic growth.

The conference is seen as a catalyst in the promotion of small and medium enterprises in the tourism sector, and has been credited for stimulating networks among upcoming enterprises in the hospitality and tourism value chain.

One of the key issues to be discussed during the conference is the tourism policy and governance.

Formed in 1982 to, among others, promote and encourage excellence in the hospitality and tourism industry, the association represents nine tourism sectors being hotels, camps and lodges, mobile safaris, tour operators, services, conservation as well as wildlife management and air charter and airlines.
