Gaborone United have withdrawn from the 13th edition of the CAF Confederation Cup competition citing heavy financial constraints.
In a statement released today, GU says they decided to withdraw from the competition as they have not been able to mobilise the required resources.
The late withdrawal is highly regretted as we did everything in our power to honour the fixture,” the statement reads in part.
Gaborone United booked their place in the Confederations Cup after winning the Mascom Top 8 Cup.
A draw that was held in Dakar, Senegal on December 11 last year pitted them against Mozambique’s Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi Football Club from Zanzibar.
GU’s withdrawal from the continental competition follows the recent withdrawal by Mochudi Centre Chiefs from the CAF Champions league for the same reasons.
