A group of 10 ‘good Samaritans’ friends from Gaborone responded to disabled Palapye children’s plight by donating toiletry on Saturday.
Following the misunderstanding between Kopano Rehabilitation Foundation and Alpha Direct Insurance which left the children disappointed due to a failed promised party last year, spokesman for the group, Chris Savva said they were moved to help.
“For us it was an opportunity to help. We do not pass judgement because as far as we are concerned the beneficiaries are all that matters,” said Chris Savva.
Alpha Direct Insurance had planned a Christmas party and brought gifts and food but loaded them up and left after falling out with the NGO.
Savva further stated that they started out small but intend to do more in the future. “We do Christmas parties and collect clothes, toys and food at the gate. We have so far donated to the Lady Khama Charitable Trust.”
He was grateful to Pula Sales, CA Sales, Spar, Gabs Tool Mart and A1 Garage among others for sponsoring the donations.
Leoky Bogatsu, Kopano Rehabilitation coordinator said some of the kids did not come for the party fearing another disappointment. “They didn’t believe it would happen but we will give them their gifts later,” she said.
