Gilport Lions Gilika believes God will help his team to win the Mascom Top 8 which is the country’s most lucrative and prestigious knock out competition.
The Gilport Lions boss revealed this when Speaking to Voice Sport moments after joining his players in a prayer to thank the Lord for the 2 all draw against Mochudi Centre Chiefs at the Serowe Sports Complex last Saturday.
Gilport Lions, formerly BMC, were the home team in the first leg of the lucrative competition whose winners will walk away P1.2 million pula rich.
Going into the game as underdogs after their indifferent form in the league, Gilport Lions gave a good account of themselves and at times looked like they would cause an upset against their more celebrated opponents.
“I believe in God. I am a member of the UCCSA. My father was a pastor. I grew up in a godly family and I know God can do great things. It is only with his will and power that we can succeed. He has carried us today and he will again when we meet them in the second leg. We need to play hard and pray hard. The holy spirit will see us through ” Gilika told Voice Sport.
Meanwhile the club’s coach Paradzayi Mandivenga is also confident that he and his charges can overcome they more fancied opponents in the game that will decide who goes into the Mascom Top 8 semi-finals.
“The two goals are an advantage for Centre Chiefs but I am confident that if we work hard we can go through. We came from behind to hold them to a draw and this gives me confidence that we can beat them” the Zimbabwean mentor told Voice Sport.
