A 46-year- old man of Sedie ward in Maun and his 27- year- old son were arrested last Saturday after they were found in possession of 16 elephant tusks at Odiakwe veterinary gate near Phuduhudu village.
Their suspected accomplices, two Zambian nationals aged 31 and 32 were also later arrested and are currently in custody.
Police District N05 Administration Officer, Superintendent John Kelebeng, said the suspects were arrested after a tip off.
He said they first arrested father and son who had 16 tusks in the boot of the latter’s taxi and that during questioning the suspects told the police that they were going to sell the tusks to some Zambian men.
“While police officers were still at the scene a black car arrived and upon searching it they found three pieces of elephant tusks. There were two Zambian nationals and we suspect they were the prospective buyers of the tusks,” he said.
He said the two local men are yet to appear in court.
