Botswana Democratic Party parliamentary candidate Thapelo Olopeng will be launched this Saturday at Tonota bus rank.
The main speaker will be former Vice President Lieutenant General Mompati Merafhe.
Olopeng defeated his rival Deputy Speaker Pono Moatlhodi in the primary elections by 3 472 to 2196 votes.
Moatlhodi appealed the results citing irregularities and demanded a re-run but it was dismissed.
The disgruntled Moatlhodi has since joined the opposition Botswna National Front last week.
Other speakers expected at the launch are Minister of Finance Keneth Mathambo, Member of Parliament for Mahalapye East and Assistant Minister of Local Government Botlogile Tshireletso.
Member of BDP council of elders Kebatlamang Morake will also be one of the speakers at the rally.
Speaking to The Voice this week Olopeng said he is working tirelessly for the party to retain the constituency.
He said the event will start at 8 am with a motorcade from the bus rank going around seven wards and surrounding villages.
“Entertainment will be provided by Vee, Slizer, local choirs and the actual launch will be done at 2 pm. This is the time for electorates to come listen and get a message of what I am going to do as far as as representing the constituency is concerned.” he Said
The former soldier and a friend to President Ian Khama rubbished allegations that Moatlhodi’s defection has shaken their constituency, adding that the former BDP stalwart change of camps will not affect the BDP campaign in any way because voters believe voters are confident that he is the right candidate.
‘We are not shaken by anything, this is our constituency.
Those are just stories that we see in papers, I do not know where reporters such news,’ Olopeng claimed.
