CONVICTED: Buka outside court after his
sentence last week

A man who claimed that he was in a romantic relationship with his employer’s 10-year-old daughter has been jailed for 12 years for rape.

Chakalisa Buka was convicted of the crime after the Francistown magistrate found no extenuating circumstances for the sexual abuse of the young girl who had been trusted to his care.

The court heard how Buka, now 52, carried out the attack in June 2008 after the child’s father, his employer, and his wife had left him to look after their daughter and her two younger siblings whilst they were away on a hospital visit.

Chief Magistrate Peggy Madandume told the court: “He was expected to play a fatherly role and protect the minor.

But instead chose to abuse the victim.”
