35-year-old Veronica Kgalalelo Brooks, better known as Diva Vebrok, is an Afro House musician who comes from Mochudi but grew up in South Africa.
As well as her impressive vocals, the Diva is equally well known for her daring, often eccentric dress sense.
Q. How long have you been in the music industry?
A. I have been in the music industry for 12 years.
Q. What inspires you to write songs?
A. What is happening in the world around me.
Q. Can you remember the first time you wrote a song, describe it for me?
A. The first time I wrote a song was when I was accused of killing my fiancé by my in-laws.
I wrote a song called ‘How can I kill someone that I loved?’ I was so hurt and I had to take out the pain by singing because they took everything I had worked for and called me names, saying that I am a witch and all that.
Q. In an average week, how much time do you spend working on your vocals?
A. I practice twice in a week.
Q. Which artist do you wish to work with and why?
A. I wish to work with Nicky Minaj. I love her style and when I see her, I see myself.
Q. Rumours were rife you were dating the famous traditional doctor from Ghana, Nana Kwaku Bonsam – any truth to those rumours?
A. One of the most powerful spiritual men in Africa; I have never dated him, Nana is my spiritual Father.
