Two brothers accused of killing their father at Matshelagabedi village on the 20th of April were granted bail by Francistown Magistrate, Kaveri Kapeko this Monday.
Meshack James, 32, and Kabelo James, 29, are accused of murdering their 70-year-old father, Thomas James, who died from injuries he allegedly sustained after being hit with an iron rod.
The brothers’ bail comes a month after their sister, 27-year-old special constable Happy James, who is facing the same charge, was bailed
Outlining the conditions for the pair’s bail, Kapeko ruled, “You are to pay the sum of P1, 000. You are to bring two sureties who are to bind themselves with P500 each. You are not to interfere with the police investigations and report to Matshelagabedi police station every Monday.”
Meshack was also told to surrender his travelling documents to Matsiloje Police Station Commander.
During the bail hearing, the investigating officer, Lawrence Nthoiwa told court that the postmortem report had been received and it showed the cause of death was due to a blunt object used to the body.
Nthoiwa maintained the brothers were responsible for the death. saying, “Meshack was holding the iron rod which he used to assault the deceased while Kabelo used his legs and hands to kick and beat the deceased.”
The two brothers next court appearance is scheduled for the 4th of July.
