Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) board member Jonathan Gibson last night told delegates at the Botswana Travel and Tourism Expo Dinner in Kasane that Botswana is well known for having some of the best wilderness and wildlife areas on the African continent.
He said Botswana is larger than both France and Switzerland combined, with almost 40 percent of its total land mass devoted to protecting areas in the form of National Parks, Game Reserves and wild management areas. “Truly, a rarity, in our overpopulated and over developed world,” he said.
For his part Member of Parliament for Chobe, Machana Shamukuni, said the Travel and Tourism Expo clearly stimulates more interest amongst the people of Chobe to venture more into tourism.
He noted that local participation in tourism continues to be one of their core interests. “I trust this event has motivated a number of operators who have always thought tourism promotion and packaging is unsustainable,” stated Shamukuni.
