BIG WEEKEND 18/11/11

Anna Christoffersson

The 15th December show starring South Africa’s Sahara will see for the first time in Botswana a revered Swedish artist Anna Christofferson performing her famous jazzy tunes.
The Swede star has already performed with Shanti Lo, during the latter’s tour during the Pride Festival in Stockholm.
Anna Christoffersson has in her own home country Sweden already been called the next major vocal star.
Her first solo album “One” will surely not change that view.
Superlatives oozed after Anna Christoffersson’s debut with Swedish Grammy-nominated album “It´s Always You” in 2006, a duoalbum she made with American pianist/composer Steve Dobrogosz. The duo released another Grammy-nominated album, Rivertime, in 2008, and just recently their third album Covers; recorded in the legendary Rainbow Studio, Oslo by Jan Erik Kongshaug.
She has shared the stage with some of the best in the world and has performed for the Swedish royal family, Kofi Annan, Jan Eliasson and Lisbeth Palme.
Anna is also a vocal coach with lessons and seminars, especially on interpretation, improvisation and song-writing

There was a time that Monnamogolo thought he would get completely tired of traditional music due to its monotonous and predictable beats and lyrics.
That day seems very far away each time I hear albums like Majakgomo’s Volume 2.
If you are a real Motswana, chances are you are just like me and would never get tired of it too. Six fine tunes.
The two brothers and two cousins recorded this album at BMP studios under the watchful ear of one Dr Tawanda, who has written his name into the history books as one of the current top producers in the country.
Edwin Disang is credited as one of the executive producers on this album. Get yourself a copy of this album.
It has just become part of Monnamogolo’s huge collection of traditional music CD’s. It gets 8 out od 10 stars.

A few minutes into your first conversation with baby-faced Itumeleng Garebatshabe about his profession, you will be blown away about how well he knows about his profession, IT!
His company Intel Holdings, started in 2007 is no ordinary IT company.
It provides innovative IT services and solutions and IT needs with the vision of providing enterprise-level information security solutions to both small and middle-marketfirms.
For relevance to this column we shall concentrate on the media aspect of his company.
Of huge significance, currently Intellegere Media is the only online music distribution dealer in the country with distribution access to leading online music stores such iTunes, Nokia, eMusic, Amazon stores and many more. That is a big deal, that means Batswana artists through his company can sell their music to the world!
Intellegere Media is also an Application developer, distributor and publisher for Nokia, Apple & Android.

The smell of the festive season is in the air.
Brace yourself for some big shows starting next weekend.
The Annual Infinite Word Fe4stival this year is not on one but two days this time.
The first one on Sat November 26th ant Café Khwest, where the movement started about a decade ago features, Motswako originator Nomadic and the country’s best hip hop Dj, Khenzo.
The poets on the night will be Exodus Live Poetry team, Gabz Fm and Mmegi reporter Tshireletso Motlogelwa, afropop sensation Kayzee and many more.
The next day the show moves to Maitisong where the following will be featured, Lesego Rampolokeng, Tj Dema, Ntirelang Berman, Moroka Moreri, Samantha Mogwe, who by the way is working on her debut album and may more.
Sponsored by GabzFm, Duma Fm and Yarona Fm, a rare thing to see all three radio stations supporting one event, but indeed a very welcome development Monnamogolo would like to see with other shows.
Hopefully, this has set a precedenbce that all radio stations will follow in the future.
Promoters in this couuntry need this kind of support!

The king of Mpaganga is back with a bang.
He nearly took BOMU to court for not including this genre in its annual awards some years ago.
Now the music is one of the leading genres in the country today. With his latest and third studio album just out in time for the festive season MC Maswe is the happiest man in town.
The Water Utilities employee is a devoted entertainer who takes his music career very seriously.
Programmed and arranged by Dr Tawanda at Mega Bass Studio, it was indeed a match made in heaven as the former is a great Mpaqanga producer.
Maswe’s fans will be spoilt for choice amongst the following tunes, Botshelo, Come Back Home, Zebras For Lyfe, Basiele Metsi, Sher Is My Love, Diaduma and Plastic in which he featureds one of his longtime friends, Franco. T
he album gets 8 Monnamogolo Stars out of 10. The festive season is not going to be the same.
