CRYING GAONE GONE
Last year’s My Star contestant Dineo cried every time she messed up. This year Gaone picked off where Dineo left. She cried at least four times during the Top 23 stage of the competition. The tears, however, did not save her from the axe, as she became the latest My Star contestant to bite the dust last Friday. But she can stand proud that the judges recognized her writing skills. If it were not for her shyness on stage, she could have possibly avoided elimination against the stage savvy Omphemetse. The competition is less than a month away from the end. The grand finale will be at Boipuso Hall on July 9th at which Minister Shaw Kgathi will be the guest of honour!

NONYANE YA MAKHURE
Traditional/Borankana music won’t die anytime soon. Just as many people were predicting its demise, more and more new artists/groups emerge with new Metswako of this genre. One such new artist to have emerged recently is Rakhudu from Francistown. His debut album, “Nonyane Ya Makhure” has just been released. The six-track album has sweet tunes like Dumelang, Botshelo, Tshabang, Shimanayana, Mogwe and the title track Nonyane Ya Makhure. If you are looking for a fresh voice and vibe in this genre, the baby faced Rakhudu is your guy. The CD gets a 7 out of 10 stars from Monnamogolo.

TSELE LE TSELE
He has to be one of the most underrated but hugely talented club DJ, Dominic Selabe aka DJ Doms has been at it for around 10 years now. He has played at major parties around GC and has also blazed the airwaves at Yarona Fm making cameo appearances on the Friday and Saturday night’s shows. Otis the Flow Frazer is back on the airwaves at Gabz Fm, sweeter than ever. The brother ages so well like wine. How this brother never crossed to South Africa for club deejaying and music production is something I will ask myself forever. Popular music store, Musica, recently got a rude awakening when it was ordered to put the dreaded halogen sticker on all its CDs and DVDs. The store reportedly ceased to receive new stock from South Africa for some time until all its current stock had been given the halogram sticker. The halogram is an anti-piracy measure for fake goods.
