Specially elected councillor in the North West District Council; Abel Molelo is set to appear in court today (Friday) for assaulting a council employee over a P72.00 claim.
After returning from a work assignment, Molelo who is BDP Head of Caucus at Maun Administrative Authority is said to have submitted receipts for a stipend commonly known as imprest amongst government employees.
According to a source at the council when Molelo failed to produce all the receipts to account for the total amount of money he had received prior to the trip, he offered to pay the balance in cash.
He however later brought receipts for P130 expedinture, and demanded a refund.
After going through the items bought, the Accounts Officer, Tjenzi Masalila told him he was only going to get a P58.00 because some of the items he had bought were not covered under the allowance.
“He used P72 to buy sweets and toilet paper and those things are not catered for by the impreset. The money is meant for food and soft drinks only,” said the source.
The explanation allegedly made Molelo so angry that he attacked the officer who ran for cover.
Terrified council employees reported the matter to the police who arrested Molelo and charged him with assault and common nuisance.
Maun Acting Station Officer Assistant Superintendent Borefeletse Papani confirmed that they were investigating Molelo.
Masalisa declined to comment on a matter that was with the police while Molelo’s phone rang unanswered.
