Police are on the hunt for a robber who held a 31-year-old woman at knifepoint and raped her repeatedly throughout Monday night, releasing her the following morning at a bushy area.
According to the police, the suspect dragged the victim from her work premises to a bushy area where he raped her after robbing her of P4 000.00.
Superintended Lebalang Maniki of Francistown Central Police Station said the suspected rapist had entered the bar disguised as a customer when the victim, who was alone at the time, was about to knock off.
“He grabbed the victim from behind and then dragged her to the bushy area at Donga location. The suspect was armed with a dangerous weapon that we believe was a knife,” said the police boss.
Preliminary police investigations have also established that the victim was sexually abused throughout the night following her abduction at around 11pm on Monday. “She was only released the following morning,” said Maniki.
Maniki further said the victim reported that she was too scared to raise alarm as the armed assailant threatened to kill her.
According to Maniki, the police have launched a manhunt and he has urged anyone with information that could prove vital in the arrest of the suspect to contact the nearest police station.
“People should be free to come forward with information because the source will be treated as confidential as possible,” said Maniki.
