NEW ABODE: BancABC building

African Banking Corporation of Botswana Limited trading as BancABC, recently moved into its newly constructed own home within the Fairgrounds in Gaborone.
The bank that also recently announced its entry into the retail market is a wholly owned subsidiary of Botswana Stock Exchange listed company, ABC Holdings Limited.
BancABC acquired the land from Commercial Holdings (Pty) Limited, a member company of Botswana Development Corporation Limited, in December 2007. The plot measuring 7,300 square meters was destined to be BancABC’s new head office as well as house its flagship Fairgrounds retail branch.
Time Projects (Botswana) (Pty) Limited was the project manager while Paul Munnik of Paul Munnik Architect (Pty) Limited designed the building and Hualong Botswana was the main contractor. Structural engineer was ADA Consulting Engineers, electrical and mechanical engineer was EDQS and quantity surveyor was Macintosh Latilla.
Construction work commenced in the latter part of 2008 and the building was completed in June 2010. Staff moved into the new offices over the weekend of 26 June 2010 and started work from the new premises from 28 June 2010. The flagship retail branch at the complex is being kitted-out and is expected to open its door for business in the fourth quarter of this year. The property was developed at a cost of P25 million. The branch at Fairgrounds will be the second BancABC branch in the country after the first one that opened its door for business on 5 July 2010 at The Square within the New CBD in Gaborone. “The construction of our very own head office is a sign of our confidence in the Botswana economy. It also conveys our commitment to the local economy, our customers, our staff and our stakeholders. It signals our intention to be a key player within the financial sector landscape of the country,” said Jitto Kurian the Managing Director of BancABC Botswana.
