Home Voice on Fashion AFRICA ROCKS

The New York model with her Louis Vuitton

Awash with style, elegance, fashion and celebrities, the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg hosted the annual Africa Fashion week from the 30th June to the 3rd July. In the midst of the FIFA World Cup, twenty-seven African Designers from all over the world took centre stage and showcased their latest collections in various interesting themed shows, worn by some of Africa‘s own top models. The designers included Botswana’s own Koketso Chiepe whose clothing line and accessories may be found in stores in New York, London, Tokyo, Spain and South Africa. Dressing many international celebrities, Koketso’s designs have also graced the third cycle of America’s Top Model, and various magazines, such as, Italian Vogue, Elle and Cosmopolitan.

Models tend to be the sexiest pregnant women ever

Fashionistas, fashion designers, stylists, buyers, models, media, make up artists and fashion critics thronged in their non-conforming styles and consequently built an excitingly colourful and edgy ambiance.
A play ground where gay boys come out and play without feeling judged. I enjoyed and deeply wished my beloved country could also experience a similar come together….wow!!

Having been to the Africa Fashion week what did you find as the latest trend amongst the designs and attendees? Kana, here we are so behind with the trends we need people like you to keep us on the loop.

Hey Keba,
Sequins and more sequins, in all colours, from black, gold, blue and more….was the convention centre blinging with some shine and glittery make-up! Lace on tights, dresses, jumpsuits and gloves was also an interesting realisation. While more and more females showed up in a masculine style of blazers and waist coats, with the funkier ones making it happen in puffed-shoulder padded dresses, jackets and tops. Was it a spectacle or what!! I so felt at home, my love for fashion was re-born to another level!
