Though aerobics dominates many wellness day events, it still remain one of the marginalized physical activity in the country.

SWEAT AND RIPPLING MUSCLE: Action from Phikwe

Over the weekend aerobics enthusiast across the country gathered in Selibe Phikwe for their 8thannual Aerorathon event, held under the theme ‘Physical fitness with fun’.
Instructors from different clubs took athletes through their paces with points awarded to those who performed well and according to instructions.

In the end the Gym Active from Gaborone garnered more points.Expressing his gratitude to the excellent turn out and the way the whole event unfolded, the Chairman of Fitness Aerobics Club of Phikwe who hosted the event said,“A lot of people do not understand aerobics; they think it is a ladies sport.

This is a clean sport which is more choreographed and organized.”Mangole noted that aerobics has no serious injuries as it is not a contact sport.
He said that nowadays the sport is recognized even in institutions and companies,“Currently we have clubs from hospitals and schools which are mainly made up of staff members,” he said.
Captain Mangole said that aerobics can help to reduce stress, boost one’s confidence and tone up the body.

The chairman of fitness club acknowledged the effort made by members of the Botswana Defense Force who are the pioneers of the sport in Botswana,
“Most of these clubs were started by army officers and we really appreciate their effort”The Aerorathon was sponsored by BCL, Eureka, Daily Needs Supermarket, Pick and Pay, G4S, Travel Inn and Phikwe Deputy Mayor Kelebetse Kelebetse.
