Shocked police officers bury their colleague’s daughter
In a devastating case that has left Tsabong Police officers reeling in shock, a three-year old girl was found hanging on a short cord tied on a gate. Some suspect the child was playing suicide games.
The incident happened at the police camp last week Thursday and the only witness to the suicide is another three-year old, a neighbour’s son who was playing with the girl when it all happened.
Details of the incident are still unclear, as Police cannot rely on evidence of a minor who can hardly speak but rather second hand information of his mother who discovered the deceased hanging from the cord.
The mother had gone outside to check on the two children when they unusually went quiet for some time. It was then that she found her son playing with sand oblivious of the body hanging next to him.
The deceased, Katlego Lerubise of Moshopha village in Tswapong district and her mother, were visiting her father, who is a Police officer in Tsabong when tragedy struck.
She was buried in her home village on Tuesday morning.
Tsabong station commander and the deputy officer commanding for Tsabong District could only confirm but not shed more light on the matter on the case as they said they were still in a state of shock.
“We are all mourning. This is an emotional issue and we cannot discuss it at the moment,” said the Tsabong station commander before referring the matter to his superiors.
Southern Divisional Commander, Kedikilwe Dikgang said the Police are still investigating the matter. Dikgang could also not say if it was indeed play suicide or an accident.
“Police investigations are ongoing. It is a sensitive matter because it happened inside the police camp,” Dikgang explained.
Lerubise family, which was still trying to come to terms with the sudden demise of their once cheerful child, could not comment on the matter. Family representatives, Joel Lerubise and Mokolobetsi Tebagano said the whole family was numb with shock.
“We are emotionally bruised and cannot discuss the sad news with you,” said Mokolobetsi following a family meeting on Monday afternoon.
