The annual Son of the Soil cultural event has been indefinitely suspended and will not take place during the first quarter of the year as is norm.
A recent press release by organisers read, “The event has remained relevant to its objectives over the years for fostering a sense of cultural identity and pride for Batswana.”
However, speaking to Voice Entertainment this week, one of the event organisers from Bana ba Mmala, Pontsho Pusoentsi confirmed the cancelation.
“It is true we have decided to postpone this year’s event. The event was initially scheduled to be hosted this month (February) but we have since taken the decision to postpone – a decision we reached last year December,” he revealed, adding that it is more than likely Son of the Soil will only happen next February after they regroup.
“It is in the best interest and attractiveness of the event as this year’s planning process has taken longer than anticipated. We intend to ensure an exciting and renewed experience for all future events,” he continued.
Last year, the colourful cultural show’s 13th edition was held under the theme ‘Kwa re go yang re Kgabile’ with over 2, 000 people turning up at Serokolwane Farms.
