BIZA’S RHUMBA LETHEKA
Biza Mpulu came into Botswana way back in 1993 and joined a group called Super Power that he stayed with for three years. He then joined Alfredo Mos and Africa Sounds where he stayed for eight years before breaking away to form his own band, The Dr Biza Band that also broke down after three years when all of his band members were deported. He rejoined Alfredo Mos for three years and later left to go solo again. The brother who calls himself owner of Rhumba has just dropped his third hot album, Letheka. This is a super Rhumba album that gets 9 out of 10 stars from Monnamogolo. You can get both the DVD and the album.
KGOGONOO KE MOREMOGOLO
Hail Earth, producers of hit song Tinto are back with a banging album by newcomer Kgokgonono. This is their first album since they left Eric Ramco Records a few months ago. The 12-track album was however produced at the Eric Ramco Records studio before they left. It includes tunes like Megolokwane, Marakalase, Tobetsa, Ntsha Nkgo, and Matlhalerwa in which Kgogokgonono features Kganka. It remains to be seen how this album will do seeing that the duo no longer has the mighty support of Eric Ramco. It gets 9 out of 10 stars from Monnamogolo. MY STAR TOP 3
Tonight will be the defining moment for My Star 2010 when the field is cut down to the top 3 contestants. The three will compete for the grand prize of a recording and marketing deal with a range of prizes including a substantial cash prize. This year’s Mascom sponsored show has been just as huge as the first three. Last Friday, Michael Jackson wannabe, Omphemetse was eliminated. Now Wame, Kedibonye, Galaletsang and Kgalalelo will battle tonight for a place in the grand finale scheduled for July 9th at Boipuso Hall! Incidentally Omphemetse was eliminated on the 1st anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death!
IRON MAN COMPETITION
The first annual Mr & Ms Iron Man held at the president Hotel was a huge success. Body Building is one of the fastest growing sports/entertainment activities in the country. In the junior category, Simba Ferro was judged to be the best. Last Sithole took the prize in the Lightweight division. The Middleweight division was won by Steve Obotseng and the Heavyweight crown was taken by Champion Shiengeranwno. Last Sithole took home the overall winner’s crown. The organisers are putting together a Strong Man’s competition in August in which contestants will pull the head of a horse and trailer truck, flip a caterpillar tyre and carry and run with a 50kg bag of sand.
MOGALE WA KGALE
Mogakolodi Mongwato aka EMsolo strated writing songs in 2008. In 2010 he released his first solo project, Mogale Wa Kgale. The 11 track Motswako album was produced entirely by one of the most versatile producers in the country, T-Les. It includes monster tunes like Tolokolola, Six Feet Boys, U cant Stop Me, Motswako Addict Gale Mpona and his favourite tune Heartbreaker. He feature T-Les on One Step 2 Step, Ayatollah Moleko on Tolokolola and Motswako Addict. The Gweta native now based in Phikwe hopes to launch the album very soon. MINI GIG GUIDE
The long awaited Gaborone launch of Cany McKenzo’s CD is scheduled for tomorrow at The Bull n Bush. Cany is Mapetla’s longtime producer. He co-produced the smash hits Aahh and Ma Get Down and the latest smash hit Idedele. The launch features the likes of Mr O, Easy B, Khenzo, Mr Massie and yours truly. Meanwhile at the Lizard Lounge BK Proctor will be hosting a show dubbed The Winter Party. He will be releasing his third and fouth albums simultaneously soon. Performances will be by BK Proctor himself, T.H.A.B.O, Eugene Jackson, Eureka, Kast, Steez, Sta Luu, Trauma, HT and DT.
